That game is also called Othello. The origin of the game is not clear. People started playing it at the end of the 18th century. It became especially popular in the 19th century all over Europe.
The game takes place on the board of 64 squares, which is the same as the chessboard. Firstly, players choose the color - ones are light (referred as white), and the other ones are dark (referred as black). Players use 64 special pawns, which are light on one side, and dark on the other. It means both players can use all pawns. Players make their moves alternately, by placing their pawns on the board. Pawn placed on the board cannot be moved; the game is played only by placing new pawns.
