It is believed that Poker is the most popular card game, especially in America. It is the part of culture and it is played in private houses, clubs and in casinos. Its origin is not known very well and some experts say that the ancestor was a Persian game s Nas. Others believe that the rules are originated from many different games. Anyway we can say that the game is not new. The first publication about it is dated 1834. Jonathan H. Green wrote about the rules of a "Cheating game" which was played by the passengers of Mississippi steamships and called it "Poker". The game he wrote about was played using only 20 cards - from aces to tens. Every player got five cards and there was betting as well. The game continued to spread - from steamships it came to New Orleans and very fast to all parts of America. For years the game has moved from the dark backrooms of pubs to the bright rooms of modern casinos. In the times of Wild West, in every city - from the East to the West Coasts - there was a saloon with a poker table! Today poker is consequently regulated by gambling laws, but it is still one of the most popular card games. Sporting events - tournaments and championships - take place all over the world.
