NOMINATION

The forecast of pocketing the definite ball.

Elaborate points on the table rim that divide it into equal areas, which are used to measure distances and angles.

TOUCHING BALL

SIDE or CHECK SIDE

Hitting the ball at the right or left side of the "center" in order to rotate it.

FRAME

A basic part played in snooker.

FREE-BALL

The situation in snooker when a player can select any ball on the bed of the table, which is to replace the ball that has been supposed to be in play (which is snookered). See: the detailed rules.

RAKE

The ancillary cue with the support at the end reminding the shape of a rake.

TIP

The cue end, which is usually made of leather. It is the only part of the cue one can hit the ball with.

POCKET

The place the balls are potted into. The hole in the bed of the table.

ANCILLARY CUE

An auxiliary, special cue that facilitates the access to the balls that are situated in the bed of the table that is difficult to reach.

COMBINATION

Playing the ball that pockets the nominated ball.

CROSS

The ancillary cue with the end reminding a cross.

BAULK LINE

The line marking the Baulk-line within its area.

RETURN LINE

The line on the table where the balls are placed, e.g. the balls that have been off the table. The procedure depends on the rules.

MASSE

The stroke with the cue raised upwards at a large angle, which makes the ball roll at a curve.

CENTER SPOT

The spot on the snooker table, which is the middle if the Baulk-line, where the brown ball is situated.

The spots on the table for carom.

SAFE

The strike that results in the change of the player at the table, but making it difficult for him to strike correctly.

RESAFE

A player having performed a safe, the opponent performs a strike that leads to a safe again.

BREAKER

The cue that is used to break balls while opening in some pool billiards, i.e. 9-ball billiard. It is heavier than usual and strengthened.

CENTER POCKET

The pocket in the middle of the cushions.

SNOOKER

The name of the game and the situation on the table, when the ball in play or the ball on are blocked and the access to them is difficult.

SPOT

The spot on the snooker table where the black ball is situated.

STOP

The stroke minimally below the ball center meant to impart a direct recoil or backward movement, having hit another ball.

THE "D"

It is the area on the bed of the table the shape of which reminds the letter "D", where the white ball in hand is played.

The upper cue part of the cue consisting of two parts, which is ended with a tip.

TOP STROKE

The strike that promotes extra forward rotation due to hitting it just above its center.

The longest ancillary rod ended with the support shaped like a cross, which is used in snooker.
